The international platform for the release of civilians arbitrarily detained by the Russian Federation

Yesterday, our Head of Mission Danielle Bell spoke about the situation of civilian detainees in the occupied territory and in the Russian Federation at a conference in Kyiv, noting that the fate of civilian detainees remains deeply concerning more than two years into Russia’s large-scale invasion of Ukraine.

Ms. Bell said violations against detainees over the past two years have included summary executions, arbitrary and incommunicado detention, sexual violence and widespread torture and ill-treatment.

Two new reports scheduled for release in the coming weeks detail violent and repressive measures against the civilian population during the decade-long Russian occupation in Crimea as well as in the newly occupied territories.
