Today we presented a comprehensive report on human rights in Russian-occupied territory of Ukraine, based on over 2,300 interviews.
"We received firsthand accounts of how the Russian Federation has used violent and repressive measures to control the people, unlawfully impose its legal and administrative systems, and suppress expressions of Ukrainian culture and identity,” Danielle Bell, Head of our Mission, said today.
We also spoke about the treatment of prisoners of war.
Guest speakers included
- Karolina Lindholm Billing from UNHCR;
- Tamila Tasheva, Permanent Representative of the President of Ukraine in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea;
- Olga Altunina and Oleksandr Kononenko from the Office of the Commissioner for Human Rights.
They shared their reflections on human rights violations in occupied territory, and spoke about ways to address the complex legacy that the occupation creates.
The text of the report is available in English , Ukrainian and Russian.
