The meeting of the expert council at the office of Ukraine’s Parliamentary Commissioner for Human Rights

On Friday, 26 April, we participated in the meeting of the expert council at the office of Ukraine’s Parliamentary Commissioner for Human Rights. The discussion focused on how to improve protection of victims of the war: streamlining procedures so that people disabled as a result of the war get the help they need, and simplifying pension payments to IDPs, as well as the issuance of birth certificates for children born on occupied territory.

We raised the issue of property rights of persons who had to leave occupied territory. The Russian-occupied authorities recently adopted legislation allowing for nationalization of so-called unattended movable property and housing in the occupied areas of Donetsk and Luhansk regions. We discussed the fact that people from occupied territory will have many questions about how to protect their property rights and need clear answers.
